"Holiday Letters to our Troups"
Horn Memorial Hospital, led by the Service Excellence Team, recently completed an employee-based "Holiday Letters to our Troops" project. The "Service Excellence Team" is a core group of employees who lead and educate fellow staff to provide service excellence to patients and visitors as well as each other, through positive words and actions on a day-to-day basis. It was with this positive spirit that the group began the mission to personally thank the soldiers from the Ida Grove area who are serving our country by sending them each a Christmas card.
To get the project underway, the team organized a kick-off party to share their goal: Horn Memorial staff will show its support to our troops by sending 250 cards/letters to the soldiers from the Denison, Carroll, and Storm Lake Infantries who are serving in Afghanistan.
It didn't take long for the cards to start rolling in. A large decorative candy cane was placed in the hospital lobby with red garland stripes strung to measure the progress; for every 20 cards received a new garland stripe was strung! Staff quickly got into the spirit of the holiday and it wasn't long before the group reached its goal!
Kelly Shever, Project Leader commented, "The outcome of this project was a success, but in the end, it was even more than we could have hoped for. Raising awareness of the men and women who are serving our country and making sacrifices for us each day was an added bonus. It is our hope that every soldier will receive a card and that the card and small treat will bring a smile to his or her face. We wanted to give thanks to them for the sacrifices that they have made for us and our country, so that we may all celebrate a safe and happy holiday season with our friends and families. Let freedom ring!"
