SAFETY DAY TO BE HELD JULY 14, 2010
Posted 05/28/2010Horn Memorial Hospital will sponsor the 9th annual Progressive Agriculture Safety Day TM on Wednesday, July 14th at the Ida County Fair Grounds. Registration will begin at 9:00 and the youngsters will be finished at 2:00. The Safety Day is planned for youth ages 8-13. Older teenagers are welcome to come as volunteer assistants.
Educational topics include: machinery safety, propane safety, ATV safety, pollution awareness, and health awareness. Other lessons are currently in the planning stage. All lessons will include an educational session or demonstration coupled with an activity.
Each year, many children are killed or injured on America's farms and ranches. According to Sandy Lacey, coordinator for the event, "Safety Day Camps are being held in locations across the U.S., Canada, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and American Samoa to teach rural children how to prevent injuries and reduce the risk of farm incidents". The Safety Day is open to all children of the area. Any child who lives on, works on, or visits a farm can benefit from participating in the day.
National sponsors for the event are Bunge, Agrium, Farm Credit, John Deere, Toyota, Monsanto, and Pioneer. Regional and state sponsors also contribute to the program. Our local Safety Day has several local contributors. These will be recognized closer to the date to be sure all are included.
Each child will receive a t-shirt, lunch, snacks and a bag of goodies. The cost for Farm Safety Day is $5.00. Deadline for registration is July 9th.
